‘Best day ever!’: Montreal school transforms library into Winter Wonderland
Their first ever Winter Wonderland took parents from the school’s Home and School team over 10 hours to create.
Santa visited Honoré Mercier Elementary School in Saint-Leonard on Thursday, where the school’s library was transformed into a Winter Wonderland to celebrate his arrival.
“This is the best day ever,” said Kiara Manna, a grade one student. “Olaf is here, the gingerbread man, Santa, and the Grinch!”
The school’s first-ever Winter Wonderland took over 10 hours to set up, thanks to the dedication of the Home and School team.
“We wanted to do something different for the kids,” said Felicia Spadafino, Head of Home and School. “We really wanted to give back to the students for all the hard work they’ve done throughout the year.”
As part of their holiday celebrations, the students also enjoyed a special breakfast. About 300 plates of pancakes and bacon were served to the children.
“I’m having so much fun because my friends are having a blast today,” said Alexander Foussekis, a grade two student. “And I like pancakes.”
“I love Christmas,” said Romina Mancini, Vice President of the Honoré Mercier Home and School. “I love magic, I just love creating things for the children and for ourselves. We’ve been planning this for so long, and it’s so exciting to see it all come together.”
Santa gave each student a cookie and a book in both French and English. The group photos taken with Santa will be developed and sent home to families.
“I’m very happy because it’s my last year here,” said Eva Pompa, a grade six student. “It was nice seeing all this happen.”
“I had no words,” said her classmate, Beatrice Brosseau. “It’s amazing.”
“Thank you, parents,” said music teacher Veronica Graniero. “We really enjoyed today, and our students are all very happy.”
Memories were made, and the holiday spirit was alive, with Manna adding, “I was scared of the Grinch, but this year I’m not, I gave him a high five!”
