Cars torched in St-Léonard, Côte-des-Neiges
Evidence found at the scene suggested the fire had been deliberately set.
Montreal police arson investigators are examining two separate car fires that occurred late Sunday night and early Monday morning in shopping center parking lots in the boroughs of St-Léonard and Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
The first fire was reported around 10 p.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of the Langelier shopping center on Langelier Boulevard near Lotbinière Street in St-Léonard. Firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, but the car was completely destroyed. Evidence at the scene indicated that the fire was intentionally set, according to police.
The second fire took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday. Emergency calls reported a vehicle ablaze near the parking lot of Côte-des-Neiges Plaza on Côte-des-Neiges Road near Barclay Avenue. This incident resulted in one vehicle being completely destroyed and another sustaining damage from the flames. Since no accidental cause could be identified, this case was also handed over to the arson squad.
All three vehicles involved in the incidents have been towed for further investigation. No injuries were reported in either case, and no arrests had been made as of Monday morning.
