Habs spread holiday cheer at Montreal hospitals
Canadiens spend day visiting sick kids in the community on Wednesday
The Montreal Canadiens added a festive touch to their routine on Wednesday by donning Santa hats after practice and spreading holiday cheer to young patients and their families in three children’s hospitals around Montreal.
Over 420 children were visited by the team, who brought gifts, smiles, and even some decorating tips. The players, divided into seven groups alongside mascot Youppi!, made their way through the hospitals to reach as many families as possible.
This annual tradition, which has been ongoing for more than 50 years since Jean Béliveau began organizing hospital visits with his teammates, holds a special place in the hearts of the players.
"It touches a lot of guys to put smiles on the faces of kids and families. I think it's good for the parents, too, to see their kid smiling in more difficult times. For us, it's always a nice day, and a chance to give back... so, it's going to be enjoyable," said defenseman David Savard.
As the team gears up for their end-of-year road trip, this December tradition remains a cherished opportunity to connect with the community. The Canadiens extend their wishes for good health and a joyful holiday season to all their fans heading into the new year.
