Hollywood A-listers support Blake Lively amid claims against Justin Baldoni
The complaint, filed late last week with the California Civil Rights Department, accuses Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of the movie and a subsequent effort to “destroy” Lively’s reputation.
Blake Lively has received strong support from Hollywood figures following her allegations of sexual harassment against her It Ends with Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni.
In a complaint filed with the California Civil Rights Department last week, Lively accuses Baldoni of sexual harassment on set and a subsequent effort to tarnish her reputation. The complaint also alleges that Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios coordinated a "multi-tiered plan" to damage Lively's image after she and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, confronted Baldoni and a producer about “repeated sexual harassment and other disturbing behavior” on set.
Lively claims that Baldoni enlisted publicists and crisis managers to carry out a “sophisticated, coordinated, and well-financed retaliation plan” aimed at "burying" and “destroying” her if she made the allegations public.
Baldoni's legal team has denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false.”
Since the news broke, Lively has received an outpouring of support from her colleagues and Hollywood peers. Colleen Hoover, author of the book on which the film is based, praised Lively on Instagram, calling her “nothing but honest, kind, supportive, and patient” since their first meeting. Hoover also expressed admiration for Lively's strength, stating, “Blake’s ability to refuse to sit down and ‘be buried’ has been nothing short of inspiring.”
Lively’s Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars—Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, and America Ferrera—issued a joint statement in solidarity with their friend. They condemned the alleged campaign to discredit Lively, noting her courage in demanding a safe working environment during the filming of It Ends with Us. They also criticized the exploitation of domestic violence survivors’ stories in the alleged efforts to silence Lively. “Even if a woman is as strong, celebrated, and resourced as our friend Blake, she can face forceful retaliation for daring to ask for a safe working environment,” the statement reads.
In addition, Amber Heard shared her own experience of public retaliation, expressing sympathy for Lively in a statement to NBC News. She likened the situation to the spread of false information she herself endured during her divorce from Johnny Depp, calling it “horrifying” and “destructive.”
Filmmaker Paul Feig also voiced his support, describing Lively as one of the most professional and kind individuals he has worked with. “She truly did not deserve any of this smear campaign,” he tweeted.
Gwyneth Paltrow subtly supported Lively on Instagram by sharing a post featuring Lively’s haircare line, adding a queen emoji and the message, “Just added to my Christmas wish list.”
Meanwhile, new allegations have surfaced. On Tuesday, Baldoni’s former publicist, Stephanie Jones, filed a lawsuit claiming she was ousted from representing Baldoni and his studio after concerns that Lively would go public with her accusations. Jones alleges that Baldoni’s new publicist, Jennifer Abel, and crisis manager Melissa Nathan launched a smear campaign against her to take over her clients.
In another blow to Baldoni, the global non-profit Vital Voices rescinded a women’s solidarity award it had presented to him earlier this month. The organization cited his “abhorrent conduct,” which it said contradicted its values.
Additionally, Liz Plank, co-host of Baldoni’s podcast The Man Enough Podcast, announced that she would no longer be involved with the show due to the allegations. She confirmed her departure on Instagram, thanking fans for their support during her time on the podcast.
Baldoni has since been dropped by his talent agency, WME. He has strongly denied Lively's claims, calling them a “shameful” attempt to fix her public image.
Lively's complaint outlines 30 demands she made following a tense meeting with Baldoni and others, including bans on nudity and discussions of pornography or sexual experiences on set. She also requested that an intimacy coordinator be present for all scenes with Baldoni and that he not enter her trailer or makeup area while she was undressed. Additionally, Lively asked that no unapproved kissing or sex scenes be added to the script.
In her statement, Lively expressed hope that her legal action would expose the retaliatory tactics used against those who speak out about misconduct, helping to protect others in similar situations. A representative for Lively confirmed that she did not spread negative information about Baldoni or the studio.
