Montreal Police Investigate Jewellery Store Robbery in Parc-Extension

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating a violent robbery that occurred at a jewellery store in Parc-Extension on Saturday evening.

Authorities report that an SUV was deliberately driven into the storefront on Liège Street, near Champagneur Avenue, as part of the planned heist.

SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier stated that a 911 call was received at approximately 6:30 p.m., triggered by the store's alarm system.

"Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a 27-year-old man with upper-body injuries sustained during an altercation with the suspects," Gauthier explained.

The injured man, Gaganjeet Singh, the store's owner, recounted confronting the three armed robbers upon realizing the nature of the attack.

"I tried to hit them, to make them leave," Singh said. "But they came with a big hammer, rods, and guns. It was hard for me."

Singh sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the hospital before being released.

He also revealed that, after the robbers fled, he discovered one of his employees trapped under debris caused by the SUV crash.

“When they hit with the car, she was underneath the counters. We pulled her out after about 15 minutes,” Singh said. "Thank God she was sitting on the floor when it happened because if she had been standing, she would have been killed."

The suspects escaped before police arrived, and no arrests have been made. The SPVM is asking for public assistance in identifying the individuals involved.

Police described one suspect as a white male and the other two as black males.

Investigators are also working to confirm whether the SUV used in the robbery was stolen. "The investigation is still in its early stages," Gauthier added.

Singh noted that he had noticed suspicious activity in recent days, including someone filming the store from outside and another person repeatedly entering and exiting as if surveying the premises.

The robbers reportedly fled with tens of thousands of dollars' worth of gold.
