Not quite the snowfall expected, but Montreal roads remain slick
Quebecers hitting the roads on Christmas Eve will have to be extra careful in the wake of an overnight snowfall that left driving conditions on highways treacherous early Tuesday.
Quebecers planning to travel on Christmas Eve should exercise caution following an overnight snowfall that created hazardous driving conditions on highways early Tuesday. The snow, which began falling Monday evening and tapered off early Tuesday, led to several incidents of vehicles skidding off roads, particularly on Highways 20, 40, and 15. In many instances, these incidents resulted in temporary lane closures.
Fortunately, the typically lighter traffic on the morning before Christmas helped mitigate the impact. By 6 a.m., approximately 10 centimeters of snow had accumulated in the Montreal region. The Quebec Transportation Ministry reported that many highways in southern Quebec were covered with snow, and visibility was reduced in certain areas.
Despite the weather, operations at Trudeau Airport were largely unaffected, with fewer than six flights experiencing minor delays or schedule adjustments.
