Ontario family gets car stolen from Montreal parking lot with their dog still inside

An Ontario family is desperately seeking to reunite with their missing puppy, Bella, who disappeared under distressing circumstances.

Bella, a four-month-old husky-chihuahua mix, was last seen on Saturday in the parking lot of Fairview Pointe-Claire in Montreal’s West Island. The family’s vehicle, with Bella inside, was stolen during their visit. While the car was recovered the following day, Bella remains missing.

Naomi and Rocco DiRago, Bella’s owners, describe her as a cherished member of their family. "It’s hard to eat, it’s hard to do anything because she’s been such a big, huge part of our lives," said Naomi. Hoping for her safe return, Rocco added, "We’re hoping for a Christmas miracle."

The couple, from Roseneath, Ontario, had traveled to Montreal for their grandson’s hockey tournament. Bella was left in her crate in their car for about 40 minutes while the family went inside to warm up. Upon returning, they discovered their Toyota Rav-4 was gone. “We walked the parking lot for over an hour, kind of frantic by now,” Naomi recounted.

The stolen vehicle, a Rav-4, was found in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, on Montreal’s east side, but Bella was not inside. Police have since closed the case, stating they do not pursue missing animals unless they are microchipped, which Bella was not due to her young age.

The couple expressed heartbreak over Bella’s disappearance, emphasizing the emotional toll it has taken on their family. "The car can be replaced, but Bella has become such a big part of our lives. She’s only four months old, and we’ve grown deeply attached to her," said Rocco.

Bella is a small dog, weighing around 10 pounds, with short hair and a red collar. The DiRagos are offering a cash reward for her safe return and can be reached at ready4itnoni@gmail.com.

"If your heart is moved to let her come back to us, we’ll make it worth your while," Naomi said. "We really love her. Money comes and goes, but the bond we share with those we love—whether people or animals—cannot be replaced."

The family remains hopeful that someone will come forward with information to help bring Bella home.
