Toys 'R' Us Canada closing 5 stores in Ontario, revamping others and expanding HMV
Locations in London, Thornhill, Mississauga, Sudbury and Stoney Creek to close
Toys "R" Us Canada has announced the closure of five stores in Ontario as part of its efforts to streamline operations and enhance its business strategy.
The locations set to close include Argyle Mall in London, Steeles Avenue West in Thornhill, Hurontario Street in Mississauga, Marcus Drive in Sudbury, and Centennial Parkway North in Stoney Creek.
The company has not disclosed how many jobs will be impacted by these closures. Currently, Toys "R" Us operates 81 stores across the country.
In addition to the closures, the retailer plans to optimize inventory levels to make space for new store concepts. Some outlets will feature expanded, stand-alone sections for the entertainment brand HMV, which began appearing in Toys "R" Us stores last year and is also owned by Putman Investments.
Other locations will undergo renovations to include the Wonderlab concept. This initiative, currently being tested in Burlington, Ontario, features an indoor play area and spaces dedicated to arts, crafts, and sensory activities.
