Weather warning, advisories issued for eastern Ontario, western Quebec
More than 15 centimetres of snow expected for much of region
A snowfall warning has been issued for western Quebec, along with a snowfall advisory covering eastern Ontario and the southern parts of Quebec.
Environment Canada cautions that heavy snow, reduced visibility, and changing conditions could make travel challenging.
Communities north of Gatineau, including Chelsea, Maniwaki, and Grenville, are expected to receive more than 15 centimeters of snow throughout the day. Eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Cornwall, and Kingston, could see accumulations between 10 and 15 centimeters.
The advisory is triggered when 15 centimeters of snow are forecast to fall within a 12-hour period. Residents are advised to prepare for potentially poor visibility and adjust travel plans accordingly. Suggested precautions include carrying a charged phone, packing an emergency kit, and informing others of your expected arrival time. Road conditions and closures can be checked on the Ministry of Transportation's website.
In Ottawa, temperatures are expected to reach a high of –5°C on both Saturday and Sunday, feeling like –10°C with the windchill. Near Gatineau and Chelsea, Saturday's high is forecast at –7°C (–12°C with the windchill), with Sunday reaching –12°C.
Recent warmer and drier conditions in the broader Ottawa-Gatineau area have led to the cancellation of an international ski event at Mont-Tremblant this weekend.
