West Island clinic officially closed but providing patients alternative
West Islanders were worried the closure would add further strain on its hospitals, like the Lakeshore General Hospital.
Statcare Emergency Clinic in Pointe-Claire officially closed on December 31, but patients can still visit a nearby walk-in clinic for care.
The clinic’s owner, ELNA Medical, was granted creditor protection last month.
Concerns arose among West Islanders about the impact of the closure on local hospitals, such as Lakeshore General Hospital, which could face increased pressure.
However, Statcare reassured the community by announcing that a dozen additional physicians had joined Brunswick Medical, another facility owned by ELNA Medical Group, just three kilometers away. Brunswick Medical is part of the same Statcare network.
"We are pleased to confirm that patients who relied on Statcare for their minor urgent needs can now access care at Brunswick Medical Centre," said Jonathan Prunier, spokesperson for ELNA Medical Group. "This allows us to continue delivering the high-quality, timely care our patients expect and deserve."
In addition, another ELNA Medical facility, ELNA Pierrefonds, was scheduled to relocate earlier this week.
